Careers > Summer Law Clerk Program

Each summer, the Department of the Air Force employs several summer law clerks in the Office of the Air Force General Counsel in the Pentagon. These are paid positions open to current law students. A summer clerkship with the Department of the Air Force General Counsel's Office will provide excellent legal experience and an opportunity to explore public service in a Federal Government setting.

tabAbout Us
Summer law clerks participate in a formal program providing an introduction to the Air Force and the practice of law for the Air Force. Clerks have an opportunity to attend a series of "brown bag luncheons" during which senior Air Force attorneys describe their unique practice areas. In addition clerks enjoy a series of field trips to legal landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court or Air Force facilities such as Andrews Air Force Base. Of course, there are also be opportunities to work on a variety of projects, often involving high-profile issues. Law students have an opportunity to work directly with career government attorneys and military attorneys on a diverse array of legal issues including: acquisition law, fiscal law, ethics, environmental law, military personnel law, labor and employment law, intellectual property, alternative dispute resolution, and contractor responsibility matters.

tabTestimonial
"My favorite part of the summer was the attorneys that I was able to meet and work with. Every single person was supportive and wanted to get to know me and why I ended up with GC. I had an amazing experience and left with several people I know I will remain in contact with, as well as mentors." -- 2nd Year Law Student
